All of Canada’s ten provinces and three territories including Yukon and Northwest Territories have their own immigration programs called Provincial Nominee Programs. These programs are based on agreements between the federal government and the province.
Each Province and Territory have their own immigration streams and immigration programs called as Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Firstly, the provinces usually nominate candidates from certain target groups like students, business people, skilled workers or semi skilled workers because of their local needs.
Secondly, the provinces have now developed their own Express Entry systems under their own Provincial Nominee Programs. Most importantly, provinces require their Express Entry candidates to have their Express Entry Profile in the Federal Express Entry Pool. The candidates might have to file a paper-based application if it is a Non-Express Entry Stream. They may apply online process through Express Entry.
No matter the candidates are nominated under any Provincial Nominee Programs, however, they will receive an automatic 600 points under the Federal Express Entry system. The provinces nominate candidates for Permanent Residence of Canada by issuing a certificate called Provincial Nominee (PNP) Certificate. The PNP certificates almost guarantees candidates to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) because they get additional 600 points. Those candidates the have to apply for Permanent Residence of Canada within 60 days.
Some provinces will continue to process applications under separate provincial nominee “streams” besides their Express Entry stream system. These streams will often provide opportunities to people who do not qualify under the federal system because the provincial programs may accept lesser skilled occupations, or may accept lower language test results.
The number of programs offered by Canadian provinces are overwhelming. It is imperative to have through knowledge of each and every available PNP program. You also need to consider your own profile and make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria.
